Candle making is a form of art that has been around for many years and that was borne out of necessity back in the year 200AD. If you have always wanted to make candles but have never really known where to start from, then you will find this article very handy from providing you with candles and supplies needed, to the complete guide and steps that you should follow after obtaining the supplies. To make a container or jar candle, you should have the following supplies: several containers and jars (empty), double boiler, candle wax, candle wicks, pieces of crayon to add color, wax paper, oven mitts and candle fragrance (optional).
After you have made your choice on the container – glasses, jars, mugs, tea cups etc. it is time to prep them before you can make use of them. You should make sure that the containers are dry and sparkly clean. You should also ensure that you place them on wax paper to ensure that the cleaning will be much easier in the event that you make wax spills.
You should then insert the candle wax at the very center of each jar. If the candle wicks that you use have wick clips the wick should be able to stand on its own upright. However if they do not have the clips, you could suspend the wick on a pencil that is balanced across the top of the jar. After the prep work, it is time to start on the candles – melt away.
To be safe, you should always melt the wax using a double boiler. If you do not have a double boiler, you can make one by placing an empty can glass jar in one of the pans that you own. Whatever you use however you should make sure that you are not attached to as it will be covered with wax all over. At this point you can add whichever color you wish to the candle wax using the crayons that you have. Cut them into bits like the wax until you are satisfied with the color. If you want, you could also add candle fragrance to the wax. During this process however, you should not leave the wax unattended.
To pour the candle wax from the stove into the jar or container, you can use a pot holder or an oven mitt. Pour the wax into the container until it gets to the desired height. Do this for all the containers that you have and then leave the wax to dry completely. When it is dried up, you may end up with an area that is depressed around the wick. This is nothing to worry about as it happens a lot and is easy to fix this problem. All you have to do is melt some more wax and pour in the depression. Once the new wax has hardened, just trim the wick and you will be good to go.
